The Story
The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York, is one of the world’s most renowned fashion and design institutions. Their annual fashion show is a celebrated industry event attended by top designers, brands, and media from across the globe.
FIT approached Dot Com Inventions to redesign and develop a fully functional, visually stunning WordPress website for their flagship Fashion Show event. The goal was to create a digital platform that matched the prestige, elegance, and energy of the event itself — while delivering a seamless user experience for students, industry guests, and visitors worldwide.

To power the complete FIT Fashion Show ecosystem, DCI engineered 5 advanced custom WordPress plugins from scratch:
The Collection Plugin allows admins to create and manage designer collections end-to-end — each collection dynamically renders on the frontend with full lookbook imagery, designer details, and show notes, giving visitors a seamless browsing experience per show year.
The Student Submission Plugin supports both individual student enrollment and bulk CSV imports — with not one but two submission stages, each supporting CSV upload with a live error tracking system that flags and displays import issues in real time, ensuring zero data loss during high-volume submission periods.
The Homepage Plugin gives the FIT team complete frontend control — admins configure exactly how the homepage looks and what content appears, all managed from the backend and rendered dynamically on the frontend without any code changes.
The Livestream Plugin lets admins add full stream details from the backend — event schedule, embed links, broadcast info — which instantly reflect on the frontend live event page, keeping audiences updated in real time during show season.
The Email Template Plugin is a fully dynamic email design system — every transactional and event email sent from the platform is built and managed through a visual backend interface, allowing the FIT team to redesign, customize, and update any email template at any time without developer involvement.
Together these 5 plugins replaced multiple third-party tools, reduced admin workload by 60%, and gave FIT complete ownership of their event platform end-to-end.
